I admit, the first thought that flitted though my id when I heard about the closing of The Missouri Press was, “Dodged that bullet.” After my major publishing book deal kaplewed, I had my eye on the MP as a potential publisher, but then I signed with Press 53.
My second thought, after my snake brain had settled out and the superego had a chance, was “Mega dabnabbit.” The MP is a major publisher of many Laura books which I have read, enjoyed, and used in my research. I know I made fun of Professor Crankypants (AKA William Holtz), but Ghost in the Little House was a major source for my book. No, I didn’t agree with his final analysis, but I could tell he is fascinated by Rose Wilder Lane and a fan, as am I. I loved reading the long quotes from her letters. Many other books I used in my research by Amy Lauters, John Miller, and Stephen Hines are also published by the MP.
What I’m saying is that if you love books about the Midwest and Laura Ingalls Wilder, sign this petition.
